Our goals tend to be similar year after year. Partly because after the first few weeks we either give up or forget about them, and partly because some goals are the type in which we are perpetually striving for because if you stop, you may actually go backwards- health/wellness is an example of that.
The start of a new year is such a great time to take stock and see where you are, and where you want to go. From there, you can set goals and then work backwards from those goals to create action steps to help you achieve those goals.
I’m even more excited about the New Year starting smack dab in the middle of the week this year! Why would I be excited about that when everything must start on a Monday and this Wednesday business is really throwing things off?!?
Because it’s giving me a rolling start into my new habits and action steps! Today can be that Monday!
I’ve already started mapping out my goals, and of course my action steps needed to achieve those goals. The last few days I’ve had an opportunity to start easing into new routines, testing ideas, getting my mind wrapped around a new habit, and seeing what needs to be tweaked to set me up for more success come January 1st. As I test things out over the next couple days, I can refine the plan before the 1st hits. It’s much easier for me to stay motivated when I feel successful, and I feel successful when I can follow my action steps. The best part is that these few days BEFORE the 1st are like free days! If something doesn’t go as planned, I won’t feel like I failed so I won’t be inclined to give up. Instead, it’ll be great feedback as to what I need to consider to set myself up for success! It will also help condition me to not just give up when things don’t go as planned. Instead of throwing in the towel, I have a couple more days to come up with a solution to that obstacle or refine my plan. This is a huge step in reaching your goals. You must realize there will always be bumps in the road on your journey. You must learn how to get back on the horse as quickly as possible in order to make progress!
Tomorrow I’ll write a bit about my goals for 2020, and what my plan is for making them a reality!
