Member Spotlight Monday- Becca Gonzales

Becca Gonzales is this week’s member spotlight, here’s a little about her:

Q:What brought you to CrossFit Paladin in the first place? 

A: Friend at an old CrossFit gym referred me because they were friends with current coach Hollie.

Q: What was your first impression? How has it changed? 

A: At first I was intimidated and thought I would never advance. Then I learned that you advance according to listening to coaching and how much work you put in. And before I knew it I could do things like strict pull ups and hand stand pushups. Things I never thought I would be able to do.

Q: What was one of your first “bright spots”?

A: A push-up! I worked for the longest time on negatives and modified push-ups and to this day it benefits me in almost every CrossFit workout.

Q: What do you enjoy most about CrossFit Paladin?

A: It’s a family. Not to be cheesy but CrossFit Paladin reimagined the definition of family. They never made me feel like a burden. If I needed advice from anyone, they gave me advice. If I was mentally down, they gave me a reason to smile. If I needed help moving, they were there to help, asking for nothing in return. The Paladin Family is the most genuine form of unity possible.

Q: Favorite CrossFit Movement:

A: Toes to bar! Strict and Kipping!

Q: Least favorite CrossFit movement:

A: Everything in CrossFit is amazing. So snatches.

Q: What is going to be your next bright spot?

A: Currently working on building my lat strength in order to be able to do bar muscle ups.

Q: What is your favorite meal after a hard workout?

A: A kids power crunch bar and my protein shake. But also, chick fil a nuggets “off record” (only when the workout is Murph hard).

Q: Tell us about your family:

A: I have one son, Grey. Grey is an Aussie/blue heeler. He is my favorite thing in the world even though he enjoys digging massive holes in my back yard.

Q: What kind of job do you have?

A: Mental Health Instructor and Specialist for the local jail and mental health hospital.

Q: What are some of your hobbies?

A: Running, soccer, chick fil a, taking my pup to the park, and cooking!

Q: Is there anything else you would like for us to know about you?

A: CrossFit Paladin made me who I am today. It taught me that working out for appearance is not nearly as important as working out to feel and be healthy. This gym helped me overcome my eating disorder and made working out fun and positive for me, instead of a chore.

Becca has been with us for several years, and you can be assured that when she’s around it won’t be dull. Or Quiet… 😂 We love having her as part of the fam!
