This week’s member spotlight is on Mikela Bryant!
Name: Mikela Bryant
Q: What brought you to CrossFit Paladin in the first place?
A: I’d been wanting to try CrossFit for a while, but didn’t know anyone else who did it, or even where to start. I met Yessie and Sarah through the Alzheimer’s Association’s “Blondes vs. Brunettes” flag football game, and they pushed me to try out Paladin.
Q: What was your first impression? How has it changed?
A: Definitely thought it was a gym full of extremely fit, athletic people–way more advanced and fit than I’d ever be. No lie; I was super intimidated and sat in my car until Yessie got there for at least the first two weeks. Would not go in alone! Now I realize we’re all moving towards the same goal: being the best versions of ourselves. Everyone may be in different stages of life, but no one is better than anyone else. We’re all here to help and support each other.
Q: What was one of your first “bright spots”
A: The day I got an unassisted pull-up!!! So exciting!!!
Q: What do you enjoy most about CrossFit Paladin?
A: The friendships we’ve all formed and the “family” inadvertently created through those relationships. I also love that my daughter has the opportunity to have so many strong female role models to look up to, especially on the days I feel I fall short.
Q: Favorite CrossFit Movement:
A: Handstand pushups; overhead squats; double unders
Q: Least favorite CrossFit movement:
A: Wall balls & thrusters
Q: What is going to be your next bright spot?
A: Hopefully learning to butterfly pull-ups and/or how to connect bar muscle ups.
Q: What is your favorite meal after a hard workout?
A: A cold protein shake and a FitAid.
Q: Tell us about your family
A: Shane (fellow Paladin member) and I have been married for almost 12 years. We have a beautiful, strong-willed, full-of-life daughter named Kendall Fae. We live in Wolfforth with our two dogs–Dixie & Charley.
Q: What kind of job do you have?
A: I’m an Attorney for the Texas Tech University System.
Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: CrossFit; playing with Kendall; hanging out on the lake; watching college football; being outdoors; reading.
Q: Is there anything else you would like for us to know about you?
A: Just trying to be better than I was yesterday; some days I succeed, some days I fall short.
Another fun fact: The Bryant’s have really made CrossFit Paladin a family affair- after Mikela’s husband Shane joined, they convinced Shane’s dad to give it a try, and he’s been hooked ever since! It’s only a matter of time before Kendall starts the CrossFit Kid’s classes at Paladin, then they’ll have 3 generations 😊
