It’s officially 2021. Many of us have been waiting for 2020 to end for months. It was a difficult year full of challenges. Now that it’s over we can finally do x, y, and/or z!
But here’s the thing…
Nothing magically changes with the flip of the calender. Every struggle you had in December (or August, or any other month) is still a possibility in January.
If you’ve been waiting for 2021 to make some changes, get your life together, become healthier because “things will be better”, I have a bit of a reality check-
The only way things will get better is by doing 2 things:
- Understand that there will always be challenges and obstacles in life, and things will rarely go as planned.
- You have to take action and start developing habits that will lead you to become the person you want to be.
If you have some big goals for 2021, that’s awesome! But, you need to make a plan and commit to it. What habits do you need to develop? What are some common pitfalls that have kept you from reaching your goals in the past? What are you going to do to make sure you succeed this time?
Change doesn’t just happen. It takes commitment to the process. Even when it’s hard. Especially when it’s hard! If you give in, make excuses, or tell yourself “it’s just too hard right now, I’ll wait until things slow down”, you’ll never get where you want to be. Things never slow down. You must prioritize, and if something is holding you back- remove it. Make time for the things that matter most and the things that will get you closer to where you want to be.
Commit. Deliver. Repeat.
That’s the secret to making a change, and the only way to be successful.
You can’t wish your way to a better you. Action is the only route that will get you there.
