How to Get Fit in 2021

If you were to Google “how to start an exercise program”, you’d see a ton of advice from well-known (and not-so-well-known) sources.

The Mayo Clinic (a well-known source) has broken the process into 5 steps:

  1. Assess your fitness level.
  2. Design a program.
  3. Assemble all required equipment for said program.
  4. Get started.
  5. Monitor and track your progress.

Obviously, we’re not going to argue with the Mayo Clinic- this is solid advice! But the reality is those 5 steps are not very simple, and can be downright overwhelming for the average person.

For instance, most people have no clue where to start when it comes to assessing their fitness level, and having the knowledge to design a safe and effective program is something hardly anyone has. Even many trainers and “fitness gurus” that claim to have the secret to getting fit have no clue what they’re talking about.

And sure, you don’t need much equipment to start, but the less you have the fewer exercises you can include. The fewer exercises- the more redundant the routine becomes and the more likely you are to get bored and quit. If you do decide to invest in some equipment, trying to figure out which items you really need, which items will give you the most bang for your hard-earned buck is a whole other challenge!

Let me be perfectly clear- I want you to start a fitness program in 2021, and almost any exercise is better than no exercise. You can start with something as simple as a walk every day. Want to make more progress? Increase the distance each time! No doubt that with consistency, you’ll start to see some progress!

But, the list above puts a lot of pressure on each individual to research, plan, spend money, and try to assess. That tends to be so overwhelming that many give up before they even get started. How do we know? Because we have heard it time and time again when someone comes to us after trying to do it on their own.
