Can carry 7 bags of groceries at one time. Have been known to wear wrist wraps and knee sleeves for 3 hours of classes without actually working out. Used to be able to throw a football a quarter-mile. But seriously, I love to push our athletes more than they think is possible.

Growing up and for most of my life I played sports. I loved playing hockey when I lived in Colorado, even after college, in the “beer leagues.” In 2006 I was hired on at the Police Department and moved to Lubbock. I worked hard to do well in the academy but immediately after I graduated and went on to field training, I stopped any kind of physical activity. I ate terribly and gained weight as you would imagine. As I came up on 3 years with the department and 220 pounds, a friend called to say SWAT tryouts were about to be posted. All of the sudden, I had a goal, a fire again, and I started working hard. I ran a ton and started this thing called “CrossFit.” At the time, I loved CrossFit but didn’t think I could afford it. I tried doing CrossFit on my own but it wasn’t the same. After all the hard work, I made the SWAT Team and knew I had to prioritize my health and fitness. One of the first things I did was find the money and made the commitment to go back to CrossFit classes. I learned that the coaches’ input, the competitive environment, and the community and friendships I made were the reasons why doing it on my own wasn’t the same. As I continued with CrossFit I found that one of it's fringe benefits was that it helped fill the competitive void I had without a local hockey league. I stayed with it and eventually talked my wife into starting our own “Box.” Melissa was reluctant but went along with my crazy idea. I’m so glad she did, because we’ve had almost 6 of the funnest, most rewarding years we could imagine as business owners. It’s so great to be able to enjoy our hobby together and see others have fun and reach their goals with us too.
Turning PointMy turning point came when I found a goal and committed to it. My goal was and continues to be a long term, continued commitment to being in the best shape I can possibly be in. I believe it’s vital to my profession and more importantly, it’s important to my family that I remain healthy and capable of living our life with energy and purpose. It doesn’t come easy for me and I have to always work hard. The biggest struggle for me is how much I like “bad" food. After years of struggle, I’ve finally started to feel comfortable and competent with eating healthy and enjoying the healthy foods just as much as the “bad” foods. One of the things that helped me the most was when we started our Paladin Fuel program. I was able to start looking at food as fuel versus just something I like to enjoy. I've learned what I need to eat in order to see the performance I enjoy and I've learned what I need to avoid. I'm no games athlete, but nothing is more frustrating than getting into a workout and knowing I should have more energy but don't because I ate poorly the day before. The accountability of the program helps me keep on track, especially knowing I am looked at to lead by example. I work at it one day at a time and continue to enjoy the game.
Motivation & PassionI am passionate about helping those who are committed to working hard. Whether you are at the beginning of your CrossFit experience or are a seasoned athlete, I LOVE to put in the work WITH you. I have learned my limits and know that I can not get people where they WISH to go if they’re not willing to WORK for it themselves. But, it excites me beyond belief when I see someone put in the work with a humble and positive attitude.
I specialize in getting people prepared for any upcoming competitive event. Whether you are preparing for the next CrossFit competition, the CrossFit Open, the military, the police/fire academy, or SWAT tryouts, I know how to work with you. I have experience with police cadets all the way up to professional tactical athletes. If you put in the time and effort, we can get you where you want to go.
